Anselmo Mendes (the winemaker) has been making excellent Vinho Verde for years. This is a 100% Alvarinho with a really nice acidity and fresh nose. Some lovely citrusy and limy aromas. Nice depth and more body than your typical Vinho Verde ending with a fresh finish. Great balance. Perfect pairing for grilled fish. Good value at around 8 euros.

A blend of (organic) Encruzado (one of my favorite grapes) and Malvasia-Fina which provides a very elegant and lovely fruity and flowery nose. Mouth with good structure, some complexity but mostly a great balance. This is one of the best examples of whites coming out of the Dão wine region. Great to be enjoyed on its own but could be quite interesting for some cheese pairing too.

The white Reserva from Esporão is exactly what you expect of it. Full bodied, creamy and complex making a great pairing for an oven baked fish or even some white meat dishes. I wish it could have a little bit more acidity and definitely a lower alcohol level (14,5% is a bit on the high side). At around 10 € this a good value.

Great nose. A little chocolate and candy but not to extreme. Intense. Complex. This is what Douro is doing best when it comes to red wine. A delicious and quite long finish. One of my favorite Douro wines from 2008.

I'm slowly making my way from Alentejo to Douro (although I still have a lot of Alentejo to check-out), so it's always good to know what's good out there beforehand.
