Commentaire Penfolds Grange 1983

Vin Rouge produit par Penfolds sur South Australia, Australie

Appearance: darkish purple-red colour with orange rim. Nose: amazingly perfumed and complex nose of subtle black cherry and blueberry fruit combined with a swathe of secondary aromas (leather, mushrooms, black tea, game). Integrated, mellowed vanilla oak and incredible concentration of fruit. Palate: still showing ripe fruit, large tannic structure that creeps up on one, integrated and lifting medium-high acidity, superb length. Conclusion: although showing development, this vintage of Grange can happily age like a Vintage Port in a decent year. A superb wine that spends some 19 months in American oak and is mainly Shiraz with a smattering of Cabernet Sauvignon. Very, very good. Must be up there as one of the best wines I've ever tasted.
